The newest Walt Disney Pictures production, Mars Needs Moms, tells us a story about a child starting to appreciate his mom more after Martians come to take her away.
This shall be a classic Disney tale with a little space-age twist in the form of Martians. The director Simon Wells is no new-comer to children’s movies and has worked with Disney on several previous occasions. He is actually the great-grandson of the legendary sci-fi writer H.G. Wells, whose work he has used for previous films. For example “The Time Machine” is based on the book by the same name, but unfortunately the movie failed to recreate its success. Themes with Martians were a common thing with H.G. Wells, so it is clear he has had at least some degree of influence on this picture as well. The main character has his voice from actor Seth Green, who is once again forced to play the role of a child. No matter, at least he has work in these hard economic times. I don’t mean to say playing in children’s movies requires less talent, but he is probably not going to get any Oscar nominations for this. So, he plays a regular child, who has quite a regular tendency – he takes many things for granted. The financial security of his life, his friends and his family has always been in his life without any question. Soon he will be forced to re-evaluate his life, as we begin the adventure with Milo. It seems when mothers is a common phenomenon on Earth, the situation on Mars is quite different. The visitors from outer space are forced to look for moms on Earth and Milo’s is the one they want to take with them. As we watch Mars Needs Moms online, we are treated to an adventure that threatens to collapse this young boy’s life. He is forced to prove his need for his mother, something he only begins to discover as we watch Mars Needs Moms online. An interplanetary adventure is to follow, with fun having an important part, as we have grown accustomed to with Walt Disney Pictures. We always know we are going to be entertained alongside being made to think. Disney knows what is going on in society at the time and modifies its movies accordingly. I know there are many children out there with the same tendencies as Milo, and that watching this movie wouldn’t go to waste at all.
