One of the biggest historic epics of the year takes place in Scotland and involves a young Roman soldier searching for the emblem of the mysteriously disappeared Ninth Legion, which was commanded by his father.
Our young centurion will be played by Channing Tatum, an up-and-coming actor, who will be looking for a chance to shake off his pretty boy image and join the ranks of serious stars. He has appeared most notably in the recent “Public Enemies” alongside Johnny Depp. Most of his other performances have been in movies about love and romance. When you watch The Eagle online, you see his character is very heroic and macho, thus appealing to members of the opposite sex, but he is going to have opportunities to do some serious acting. Maybe under the guidance of director Kevin Macdonald all his best qualities will come to shine. Macdonald has established himself quite well in the film-industry with works like “The Last King of Scotland” and “State of Play”. Sometimes the director can start a harmonic relationship with some actor or actress, where they enhance each other and reach new heights in creation. They will only know after they have tried working together. The opposite is also possible, in some movies a well-known actor can seem like he is totally talentless; actually he is just not a good choice for the project. As a backup we have some other quite well-known names in The Eagle like Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong and Jamie Bell. They are all capable of solid performances, but probably won’t stand out too much. So we come to the biggest and most important part of making this movie successful. It is the believability and authenticity, making us feel like we are in 140 AD when we watch The Eagle online. There are a lot of people who each have to play a part in making that happen, from the costumes to historical credibility, from special effects to war-tactics and weapons. Each little detail will add to the whole effect. Hopefully they will be careful enough to not have guys in blue jeans standing behind some medieval tent, like we have seen in some big historic movies. I don’t think that we will see too many big-scale battle scenes when we watch The Eagle online. This is story is after all more focused on one man’s quest rather than the story of the whole Roman Empire. I am still looking forward to some nice combat and Roman strategy being shown on screen while I watch The Eagle online.
